Syria remains committed to a diplomatic solution with Israel, Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said at a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

“We remain committed to the option of a diplomatic solution and are working hard to achieve it, while working to end Israeli attacks, arrests, and incursions,” Shaibani said during the Arab League’s 166th ministerial session.

The Syrian foreign minister also called for the government to hold exclusive control over weapons, saying the policy would strengthen the country’s security. “Exclusive control of arms is a deterrent decision and an absolute sovereign right of the state, so that we can protect all Syrians and build together,” he said.

Shaibani reaffirmed Syria’s solidarity with Gulf Arab states and Jordan amid the ongoing war against Iran. He condemned Iranian attacks on Gulf countries during the meeting, several of which have come under fire in Iranian attacks.
