Tabasco Governor Criticized for Awarding AMLO Books to Children at Football Tournament

Javier May Rodríguez, the governor of Tabasco, has drawn sharp criticism on social media for awarding books authored by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador to children participating in a football tournament. The incident occurred during the "Copa por la Transformación" (Cup for Transformation) event in Nacajuca municipality, where winning young athletes received copies of López Obrador's book "Grandeza" alongside medals and footballs.

Videos circulating online show the governor congratulating the children as an aide distributes the books. The images quickly went viral, igniting public indignation. Many users questioned the state executive's priorities, pointing out that the children and their communities had expressed needs for specialized sports equipment and adequate infrastructure for their athletic activities.

Instead of addressing these stated needs, the children were presented with a book by the political leader of Morena, the party associated with López Obrador. The "Semilleros que transforman" (Seedbeds that Transform) program, an initiative by the Tabasco Youth and Sports Institute (INJUDET) and local agencies, organized the competition.

The controversy highlights a perceived politicization of a children's sports event, with critics arguing that the governor missed an opportunity to provide tangible support for the young athletes' development. The distribution of political literature at a youth sports event has been widely condemned as inappropriate and out of touch with the community's actual needs.
