Table Tennis: Oh Jun-seong finishes runner-up at WTT Champions Yokohama after loss to Harimoto

South Korean table tennis prodigy Oh Jun-seong finished as the runner-up at the 2026 World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Yokohama. The rising star, ranked 31st globally, fell to Japan's world No. 5, Tomokazu Harimoto, in a 1-4 match during the men's singles final held on August 9th in Yokohama.

Oh Jun-seong had an impressive run to reach his maiden WTT Champions final. He defeated world No. 11 Dang Qiu of Germany in a tough 4-3 quarterfinal match and then overcame Japan's world No. 24 Hiroto Shinozuka 4-1 in the semifinals. His performance marked a significant achievement in his burgeoning career.

Despite a strong start where he dominated the first game with powerful backhand top-spins, Oh Jun-seong couldn't maintain his momentum. He lost the second game and struggled against Harimoto's backhand top-spins in the third, ultimately conceding the lead and the match. Harimoto, the defending champion, secured his second consecutive title on home soil amidst strong crowd support.
