Table Tennis: Yeh Yi-tian defeats Russian opponent in four games, reaches semifinals for sixth straight event

Taiwanese table tennis prodigy Yeh Yi-tian has once again demonstrated her consistent prowess on the international stage, reaching the semifinals of the 2026 WTT Tashkent Contender tournament. The 18-year-old secured her spot in the final four by overcoming Russian opponent Daria Trigolos in a hard-fought quarterfinal match, winning 3-1.

This latest achievement marks Yeh's sixth consecutive WTT Contender event where she has advanced to the semifinals, highlighting her remarkable consistency and strong performance trajectory this season. She is set to face Japan's Miyu Katsuya in the semifinals, vying for a place in the final.

The quarterfinal match against Trigolos, ranked 264th in the world, proved to be a stern test for the top-seeded Yeh. After comfortably taking the first game 11-5, Yeh faced a strong challenge in the second, losing it 10-12. However, she regrouped to win the third game 11-6. The fourth game was a tense affair, with Yeh eventually clinching it 12-10 after saving multiple match points, showcasing her resilience under pressure.

Meanwhile, another Taiwanese player, Chien Tung-chuan, also advanced to the semifinals. She defeated her compatriot Wu Ying-hsuan in a "Guo Tai internal battle" with a straight-sets victory. Chien will now face Japan's Yukiya Usuba in her semifinal match. Usuba is in strong form, having recently won the Ulaanbaatar Contender event.
