Taichung building fire traps six on top floor; rescue underway

A fire erupted in a five-story residential building on Taiwan Boulevard, Section 1, in Taichung City on Sunday evening, sending thick smoke billowing into the sky. The Taichung City Fire Bureau received the emergency call around 9 p.m. and immediately dispatched five units, comprising nearly 30 firefighters, to the scene. The fire is located in a reinforced concrete structure, with smoke reportedly emanating from the third floor.

Firefighters arriving at the scene found six individuals trapped on the top floor of the building, in a safety zone. The group consists of two men and four women. Emergency responders are currently engaged in intensive efforts to extinguish the blaze and rescue those stranded. The Seventh Brigade team leader, Huang Shi-tsang, is directing the rescue and firefighting operations.

The incident has drawn a significant emergency response, with 14 fire trucks and 29 personnel deployed. The focus remains on safely evacuating the trapped individuals and controlling the fire, which has caused considerable disruption and concern in the area.
