Taichung continues probe into carcinogenic oil, recall volume rises to over 730,000 kg

Taichung city officials are continuing their investigation into a carcinogenic oil scandal, reporting that the amount of recalled oil and related products has now surpassed 730,000 kilograms. The city's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that this figure includes oil from central government data, industry reports, cross-county notifications, and on-site inspections.

The scope of the contamination has widened, with 13 additional businesses identified as being affected by the problematic oil. This brings the total number of impacted establishments to 286. The FDA has been conducting cross-departmental checks across markets, supermarkets, night markets, restaurants, food manufacturers, and vendors to ensure no affected products remain in circulation. Businesses found with the oil have been instructed to halt its use and cooperate with recall procedures.

Authorities are meticulously tracking the oil's distribution, requiring businesses to maintain records of purchases, usage, returns, and recalls. This detailed record-keeping is crucial for tracing the product's flow and for data comparison. The FDA is committed to updating the list of affected businesses as new information emerges from industry corrections, inter-county notifications, and site inspections.

The city government is cooperating with central administrative investigations and the Taichung District Prosecutors Office to clarify the cause of contamination, the product's distribution, and assign responsibility. The primary goal remains to safeguard the food safety of the city's residents.
