The group, founded by Hong, who is known as "Ding Dang Jie," operated under various businesses that played on wordplay. Beyond the well-known hot pot restaurant "Dan Shui Gun" (meaning boiling water, but also a pun on "Dan go run") and travel agency "Dan Qu Tao" (meaning Dan seeks to travel), the names of affiliated companies like "Dan Daun" (meaning Dan seeks debt) credit investigation agency and "Dan Wu Dui Jue" (meaning Dan dance battle) art company have surfaced. Netizens have sarcastically noted that the company names seem to foreshadow the victims' current predicament, with "Dan Shui Gun" followed by "Dan Qu Tao," and victims waiting for answers from "Dan Daun" and a potential "Dan Wu Dui Jue" confrontation upon the couple's return. Many victims reportedly invested their life savings or took out loans for these ventures. The "Dan Daun" credit investigation agency also offered legal consultation services in partnership with lawyers, a detail that now appears particularly ironic given the circumstances. The group's businesses included credit investigation services and legal consultations, with promotional materials featuring a cartoon "Ding Dang Jie" character, adding a surreal layer to the unfolding fraud.
