Taichung Diversified Taxis Surge Past Half the City's Fleet

Taichung City's taxi industry is rapidly diversifying, with the recent addition of three new companies, Yonglong Transportation, Yongbao Fleet, and Yiyi Transportation, boosting the fleet by 4451 vehicles. This expansion brings the total number of diversified taxi operators in the city to 16, with their combined fleet now accounting for more than 52% of all taxis operating in Taichung.

Introduced in 2019, diversified taxis in Taichung are characterized by their appointment-only booking system, flexible pricing, varied vehicle types, and digital services. These features have made them a popular choice for residents' daily commutes, business travel, and tourism. The latest evaluation saw three new operators approved, reflecting the growing demand and integration of these services into the city's transportation network.

Regardless of whether it is a traditional yellow taxi or a diversified taxi, the license plates of legally operating taxis in Taichung City are white with red characters, and they are insured with passenger liability insurance according to regulations.

City Transportation Bureau Director Ye Zhaofu highlighted that all legal taxis in Taichung, whether traditional yellow cabs or diversified vehicles, operate with white license plates featuring red characters and are insured with passenger liability insurance. He stressed that diversified taxis are prohibited from soliciting passengers on the roadside or waiting in designated taxi stands. Residents are urged to book rides exclusively through official fleet apps or dedicated hotlines to ensure safety and compliance.
