Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen Orders Maintenance of '4 Dishes, 1 Soup' Standard for Free School Lunches

Taichung City is set to launch a free school lunch program for all public and private elementary and middle school students in the upcoming academic year. However, the initiative faced an early hurdle as the bidding process for lunch providers encountered issues.

Reports indicated that schools previously offering a menu of four dishes and one soup saw their bids for the new program fail. This led to concerns that the quality and quantity of the lunches might be reduced, with potential new bids only covering three dishes and a soup.

Addressing these concerns, Mayor Lu Shiow-yen issued a directive to ensure the program's quality. She instructed that any school that had been providing "four dishes and one soup" must continue to offer the same standard in the new semester. This measure aims to reassure parents and students that the free lunch initiative will not compromise on the quality of meals provided.
