Taichung mayoral candidate Chiang Chi-chen emphasizes cautious approach despite poll lead

Chiang Chi-chen, the Kuomintang's candidate for mayor of Taichung and current Vice Speaker of the Legislative Yuan, has stressed that he is approaching the upcoming election with diligence, despite media reports indicating a substantial lead over his opponent.

Speaking during an interview on "Midday Talk Show" hosted by Huang Kuang-tsu, Chiang addressed claims that his poll numbers against Democratic Progressive Party candidate Ho Shin-chun have created a "Matthew effect," where advantages tend to accumulate for those already leading. While acknowledging the reports, Chiang insisted on maintaining a cautious and focused campaign strategy.

"I am being extremely cautious," Chiang stated, emphasizing that he is not taking the election for granted. He aims to secure victory through thorough preparation and engagement with voters, rather than relying solely on favorable public opinion surveys. The election is seen as a key contest in Taiwan's local government elections.
