Taichung motorcycle crash critically injures elderly woman, injures another

Taichung, Taiwan – A severe motorcycle collision in Taichung's Taiping District on Thursday has left an 82-year-old woman in critical condition and a 66-year-old woman with multiple injuries. The accident occurred around 2:40 p.m. near the front of a farmers' association parking lot.

The elderly woman was reportedly traveling straight along Taiping Road when she collided with the younger woman, who was attempting a left turn into the parking lot. Emergency services dispatched two ambulances and four personnel to the scene. The elder rider suffered bleeding from her nose and mouth, along with extensive abrasions and disorientation.

Paramedics were able to maintain her vital signs initially, but her condition rapidly deteriorated during transport to the hospital, where she was pronounced in pre-cardiac arrest. She is currently receiving intensive medical care. The 66-year-old woman sustained a fractured left arm, bruising around her eye, and various abrasions but was conscious and stable upon arrival at the hospital.

Police confirmed that neither rider showed signs of alcohol or drug impairment. They are reviewing surveillance footage to reconstruct the accident and determine fault. Authorities are urging drivers to slow down at intersections and for turning vehicles to yield to those proceeding straight to prevent similar incidents.
