Taichung promotes emerging sport Lacrosse with family-friendly event

Taichung is embracing the fast-paced sport of Lacrosse, set to debut as an official medal event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The city's Sports Bureau, in collaboration with the Chinese Taipei Lacrosse Association, recently hosted a "Lacrosse Fun Day - Taichung Lacrosse Experience Promotion Activity" at Wenxin Forest Park.

The event successfully drew nearly 100 participants from 29 families, showcasing Taichung residents' openness to new sports. The initiative highlights the city's commitment to diversifying its athletic offerings and introducing residents to sports with growing international profiles.

Lacrosse, a team sport that combines speed, hand-eye coordination, and precise ball handling, was taught by professional coaches. Participants, ranging from children to adults, were guided through fundamental techniques, including dribbling, scooping, passing, catching, and shooting. The program was designed for beginners, ensuring that everyone could quickly grasp the basics and enjoy the sport.

Registration for the "Lacrosse Fun Day" filled up within just three days, indicating a strong public interest in the sport. Beyond the structured experience sessions, the event also featured interactive game stations, allowing the wider public to engage with Lacrosse in a fun and accessible way. This approach fostered a family-friendly atmosphere, encouraging shared experiences and a collective appreciation for the sport's dynamic nature.

The promotion of Lacrosse in Taichung is seen as a strategic move to build local enthusiasm for a sport that will soon gain significant global attention. By providing accessible introductory opportunities, the city aims to cultivate a new generation of players and fans, potentially establishing Taichung as a hub for the sport in Taiwan.
