Taichung's 'Piano Ferrari' attracts masters, 'Touch of the Light' actor makes surprise appearance

Taichung's MRT市政府 station has transformed into a temporary concert hall with the arrival of a prized Fazioli F308 grand piano, dubbed the 'Ferrari of pianos.' This exquisite instrument, valued at millions, is available for the public to play from now until August 9, offering a unique musical experience to commuters, students, and travelers.

The initiative, spearheaded by the city's Cultural Affairs Bureau, moved the renowned Fazioli F308 from Zhongshan Hall to the bustling station lobby. Since its installation, the free-to-play piano has drawn crowds, turning the station's concourse into a "wall-less city concert hall." Many have been moved by the spontaneous performances, with one citizen noting the "god-tier" players often seen performing.

Adding to the allure, Huang Yu-hsiang, the lead actor from the critically acclaimed film 'Touch of the Light,' made a surprise appearance and performed. Huang, a visually impaired pianist from Taichung whose life story inspired the Oscar-nominated film, shared his music with the hurried travelers, creating a "most wonderful romantic encounter on the commute."

The Cultural Affairs Bureau hopes this public display will encourage more skilled musicians to share their talents. While encouraging participation, strict rules are in place: each person gets a five-minute slot, sharp accessories like watches and rings must be removed, and personal bags, drinks, and liquids are prohibited on stage. The bureau also provides a QR code for online viewing of the rules, ensuring the piano's preservation while maximizing public enjoyment.
