Taichung SUV crashes into storefront after hitting scooter, injuring rider and damaging six bikes

A collision at an intersection in Taichung, Taiwan, left a female scooter rider with a fractured leg and damaged several parked vehicles. The incident occurred late Tuesday night when a Mercedes-Benz SUV, driven by a 23-year-old man surnamed Xu, struck a scooter at the intersection of Jianxing Road and Ronghua Street.

Authorities reported that the scooter, ridden by a 37-year-old woman surnamed Feng, was in the waiting area and may have started moving before the traffic light turned green. Xu, driving the SUV, reportedly could not avoid the collision. After hitting Feng's scooter, the SUV lost control and veered into a nearby awning-covered walkway.

The out-of-control vehicle crashed into the storefront's metal gate and a pillar, also hitting six scooters parked in the walkway. Feng was taken to the hospital with a fractured lower leg but is not in life-threatening condition. Xu was unharmed.

Police responded to the scene and found no signs of drug use. Both drivers passed breathalyzer tests, indicating no alcohol consumption. Investigators are currently working to determine the exact cause of the accident and assign responsibility.
