Tainan and Chiayi Mayors Team Up to Promote Local Flavors

Tainan City is bringing its renowned flavors to Chiayi City with the "Taste of the Prefecture, Leisurely Tainan" exhibition and sale, running from June 6-7. The event showcases 15 Tainan businesses offering authentic local delicacies, aiming to build on last year's strong sales performance and provide Chiayi residents with a taste of Tainan's best.

The exhibition features a wide array of Tainan's agricultural and specialty products, including dried fruits, preserved meats, seafood, ice cream, and beverages. Beyond the food stalls, the event includes an orchid exhibition and a photography display of the "Wumi Le" (No Rice Music) village in Houbi District, Tainan. To attract visitors, there are also special promotions, such as limited daily giveaways of Tainan's famous "wan gui" (savory pudding) for those who take photos and check in, and gifts for purchases exceeding a certain amount.

Mayors Huang Wei-che of Tainan and Huang Min-hui of Chiayi appeared together to promote the event, sampling traditional Tainan snacks like "peng bing" (crispy pancake) with yogurt and fresh fruit. They even donned aprons to operate a pineapple peeling machine and offered samples to the public, boosting sales.

Last year, Tainan products caused a buying frenzy in Chiayi City, with impressive sales and volume. This year, after meeting Mayor Huang Wei-che at the Singapore Food Expo, we decided to join forces again, demonstrating the deep friendship between our two cities.

Mayor Huang Min-hui recalled the enthusiastic reception of Tainan products in Chiayi last year and noted that her meeting with Mayor Huang Wei-che at a Singapore food expo led to this year's collaboration, highlighting the strong ties between the two cities. She expressed optimism that the event, coinciding with a favorable date, would drive significant sales.

Mayor Huang Wei-che emphasized Tainan's leading position in producing pineapples, mangoes, sesame, and orchids nationwide. He stressed the importance of consumer support and highlighted the proximity and close interaction between Tainan and Chiayi, ensuring the freshness and quality of the produce. He believes the exhibition in Chiayi, a city known for its vibrant atmosphere and consumer spending, will effectively expand the market for Tainan's agricultural products and align with the sustainable goal of "eating local, eating seasonal."
