Tainan City council seats reduced in Dasingying District due to population decline

Tainan City's upcoming city council election will see a reduction in representation for the Dasingying District, with one less seat available. This change stems from a demographic shift, as the district's population has fallen below the required threshold for its current allocation of council members. The calculation, based on population figures as of late May, will result in the Dasingying District having five seats instead of six. Conversely, the 11th electoral district will gain one seat, increasing its representation to six. This electoral adjustment reflects the population dynamics within Tainan, where the Dasingying District's natural death rate exceeds its birth rate, contributing to the decrease in its population base. The total number of city council seats remains 57, comprising 55 district representatives and two indigenous representatives. The electoral commission has submitted its proposed seat allocation to the Central Election Commission, which is expected to officially announce the changes on August 20.
