Tainan launches 'Old House Longevity' renovation subsidies in June

Tainan City is set to launch a "Old House Longevity" initiative in late June, aligning with the Ministry of the Interior's "Old House Longevity Function Renewal Plan." This program will provide subsidies for the renovation of legal buildings older than 30 years, aiming to enhance housing safety and extend the usability of aging structures.

The city's Public Works Bureau will establish a local guidance team to assist residents. This team will offer consultations on application procedures, legal requirements, construction planning, and technical advice. The goal is to help homeowners navigate the renovation process smoothly. The bureau is also monitoring the market to prevent potential price inflation for renovation services, acknowledging that costs vary significantly based on a building's condition and the scope of work.

The subsidies are divided into two categories: apartment buildings (4 to 6 stories) and detached houses (up to 6 stories). Both can receive up to 65% of actual renovation expenses, capped at specific limits. For apartments, eligible repairs include exterior facade work, stairwell improvements, public utility pipe replacements, roof waterproofing, and accessibility enhancements. Interior renovations for safety, accessibility, and pipe upgrades are also covered.

For detached houses, subsidies can be used for exterior facade repairs, roof waterproofing, air conditioning pipe safety improvements, and accessibility upgrades. These can be combined with interior pipe replacements and necessary decorative work to improve the overall functionality of older homes. The program emphasizes structural safety assessments as a prerequisite for all applications.
