Tainan Mangoes Go North: Mayor Promotes City's Produce, Saying '1 in 2 Mangoes Comes From Tainan'

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che personally led a promotion event for the city's renowned mangoes in New Taipei City, emphasizing Tainan's dominance as Taiwan's largest mango-producing region. At the "Tainan Summer Mango Festival" held at a hypermarket in Banqiao District, Huang declared that "one in every two mangoes comes from Tainan," underscoring the city's significant contribution to the national supply. The event aimed to bring the freshest seasonal mangoes directly to consumers in the greater Taipei area.

The festival featured a variety of Tainan's popular mangoes, including the well-known Irwin variety, alongside others like Jin Huang, Yu Wen, Xi Shi, Wu Xiang, Gui Fei, and local varieties. Mayor Huang encouraged attendees to taste the different types, each offering unique aromas and textures. He also highlighted the success of Tainan mangoes in international markets, including Japan, South Korea, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Europe, noting their popularity among global consumers. However, he stressed the city's commitment to first sharing its high-quality produce with domestic consumers through collaborations with major retailers.

Beyond fresh fruit, the event also showcased Tainan's innovative processed mango products, such as dried mangoes, dried winter melon with mango, mango pudding, mango panna cotta, and mango noodles. Mayor Huang playfully suggested that tasting is believing, encouraging people to experience the sweet charm of Tainan mangoes firsthand. He also recommended Tainan avocados, which are currently in season. The promotion underscores Tainan's agricultural strength and its efforts to connect producers with consumers across Taiwan.
