Tainan Opens Registration for 43rd Zengwen Reservoir Marathon

Registration has opened for the 43rd Zengwen Reservoir Marathon, scheduled to take place on December 13th in Tainan. This popular event invites runners of all levels to experience its classic course, which winds through picturesque landscapes around the reservoir.

The marathon features multiple race options to accommodate diverse participants. These include a full marathon (42.195 km), a challenge group (21.3 km), a road running group (12 km), and a healthy leisure group (3 km). The course starts from the South Region Water Resources Branch and passes by landmarks such as Zengwen Bridge No. 3, Xipian Recreational Area, Zengwen Bridge No. 4, the reservoir dam, and the "Eye of Zengwen."

This year, registration includes a participation shirt. Marathon and challenge group participants can also receive a shoe bag. The finisher's gift includes a medal, towel, and drawstring bag, and various commemorative items are available for purchase.

Runners can anticipate a car-free environment along the dam section, offering unobstructed views of the lake and mountains, a highlight for many participants. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che announced that all registrants will receive a participation shirt, with marathon and challenge group participants also getting a shoe bag. Finishers will be awarded a medal, towel, and drawstring bag. Additional commemorative items, including a sports cap, a waterproof tote bag, and a T-shirt, are available for purchase.

The marathon is also promoted as a platform for sports tourism. The Sports Bureau Director Chen Liang-kan noted that aid stations will offer seasonal fruits, and local farmers will set up stalls, allowing runners to sample Tainan's agricultural products. The event coincides with pleasant weather in Tainan's mountainous areas, encouraging participants to explore nearby attractions like the Zengwen Reservoir Scenic Area, Meiling, Yu Jing, and Nanxi.
