Tainan's Guiren District to Host Sugar Apple Festival on August 8

Tainan's Guiren District is preparing to celebrate its renowned sugar apples with the "Good Fortune is Yours" Sugar Apple Festival, scheduled for August 8 at the Guiren Cultural Center Plaza. The event aims to showcase the region's high-quality agricultural products and attract visitors to experience the sweet harvest.

Guiren sugar apples are famous far and wide, mainly the 'Big Eye' variety.

The star of the festival is the 'Big Eye' sugar apple variety, a local specialty celebrated for its exceptional sweetness, with sugar content reaching up to 18 degrees Brix, surpassing even watermelons. Despite Guiren District having only 61 hectares dedicated to sugar apple cultivation, it represents the largest area in western Taiwan. Farmers have meticulously managed and improved their techniques, resulting in a fine-textured, sweet, and juicy fruit that embodies the district's "small but beautiful" industrial characteristics.

The festival's theme is 'Good Fortune is Yours,' symbolizing the local quality industry's abundant harvest going to market.

This year's festival promises a variety of attractions, including a market featuring 60 stalls, half of which will be dedicated to selling sugar apples. Attendees can also enjoy stage shows, interactive games, and a cycling tour. A unique culinary highlight will be the "Sugar Apple Spring Roll Ice Cream," a creative dessert demonstrating the fruit's versatility.

Guiren sugar apples, although cultivated on only 61 hectares, are the largest in western Taiwan. With farmers' careful management and technological improvements, the flesh is delicate, sweet, and juicy, showcasing the characteristics of a small but beautiful industry. We hope that through promotional activities, more people will recognize Tainan's high-quality local products.

To encourage participation, visitors completing specific tasks such as market purchases, social media check-ins, or joining the cycling tour can collect four stamps to enter a lucky draw. The festival, coinciding with Father's Day, is expected to further boost the recognition and appreciation of Tainan's premium local produce.
