Taipei City's Per Capita Funding Double New Taipei's; Candidate Calls it 'Extremely Unfair'

New Taipei City faces significant financial disparity in central government funding allocations, receiving only NT$26,600 per capita for the upcoming year, the lowest among all municipalities. This has drawn sharp criticism from Su Chiao-hui, a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate for New Taipei mayor.

Su Chiao-hui highlighted that Taipei City, despite having a smaller population and land area, receives double the per capita funding compared to New Taipei. She described the allocation as "extremely unfair" and recalled opposing such disparities during her tenure in the Legislative Yuan. She pledged to vigorously advocate for increased central government resources for New Taipei's development if she wins the mayoral election.

The current allocation model, where Taipei City receives a disproportionately larger share of the central ordinary revenue sharing fund, has been a point of contention. Su argued that the significant difference in per capita funding, especially considering New Taipei's larger population and development needs, is unjust.

Su emphasized the need for a fairer distribution of resources to support New Taipei's growth and infrastructure projects. Her commitment to securing more funding from the central government aims to address the perceived neglect and ensure the city receives adequate resources for its development and public services, such as free school lunches, which she supports.
