Taipei Mayor respects caucuses' decision on no-confidence vote, links premier to oil scandal

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an has declared his respect for the legislative caucuses' decisions concerning a potential no-confidence vote against Premier Cho Jung-tai. The mayor believes the premier should be held politically accountable for a recent scandal involving carcinogenic cooking oil.

Chiang reiterated his stance, stating, "Regarding the no-confidence vote, I completely respect the decisions of the Legislative Yuan's KMT and TPP caucuses." He stressed that any such move requires thorough discussion and consensus within both parties. The mayor also commented on the broader political landscape, noting that any attempts to create division or conflict serve to distract from the critical issue of food safety.

His remarks came as other political figures weighed in. New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih suggested that legislative matters should be left to lawmakers, while others questioned Chiang's frequent comments on national policy, speculating about his political ambitions. Chiang, however, maintained that focusing on manufactured disputes detracts from the public's urgent concerns about the safety of food products for themselves and their children.
