Taipei mayoral candidate proposes sports, music industry development; reminded Taipei Dome is for baseball

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang has outlined proposals for developing Taipei's sports and music industries, aiming to enhance the city's cultural and recreational landscape. In a joint appearance with Taipei party chairperson Wu Pei-yi and Kaohsiung chairperson Huang Chie, Shen launched limited edition city jerseys, rallying support under the banner "Team Taiwan."

Shen emphasized the crucial role of sports in urban development, noting the need for more sports venues beyond natural spaces like mountains. He pointed to the ongoing work of the proposed sports department in advancing related policies and stressed the importance of grassroots involvement. Shen envisions a future with not only community baseball fields but also medium-sized, multi-purpose venues to accommodate diverse sporting interests.

Beyond sports, Shen highlighted Taipei's rich cultural heritage and his engagement with the music industry. Shen drew parallels with Kaohsiung's successful concert economy, advocating for Taipei to focus on cultural depth and grassroots music development.

Legislative Speaker and Chinese Professional Baseball Alliance (CPBA) president Tsai Chi-chang, present at the event, offered pointed advice to Shen. Tsai stressed the fundamental purpose of the Taipei Dome, reminding Shen, "The Taipei Dome is a baseball stadium, Po-yang, you must remember this." Tsai underscored baseball's significance as Taiwan's largest sports industry, citing recent international successes that have boosted Taiwan's global visibility. He urged continued investment to improve player conditions and cultivate new talent, emphasizing that support from local government leaders is vital for the development of grassroots baseball.
