Taipei's MRT Wenhu Line to get major upgrade, new trains to ease congestion

Taipei's MRT Wenhu Line, the city's first metro line, is set to receive a significant overhaul aimed at tackling long-standing congestion issues. The extensive upgrade project, scheduled for completion in 2041, will involve the complete replacement of all 76 trains and the signaling system.

New trains will feature a "full-through-car" design, enhancing passenger capacity from the current 440 to 574 people per train. This increase is expected to significantly ease the crowding experienced during peak hours on the popular, albeit often congested, line.

Meanwhile, real estate analysis highlights the varying market appeal of stations along the Wenhu Line. Data from the past year shows the top 10 busiest transaction spots. The Neihu Station area, considered the core of Neihu District's amenities, led with 136 transactions, boasting an average price of NT$783,000 per ping (approximately $2,500 USD per square foot). This area benefits from proximity to commercial centers, markets, parks, and the Tri-Service General Hospital, making it attractive to tech workers, medical staff, and retirees.

Other popular stations include Liuzhangli, with 110 transactions and an average price of NT$833,000 per ping, located at the border of Daan and Xinyi districts and near Taipei Medical University. Conversely, stations in Wenshan District, such as Wanfang Hospital and Xinhai, offer more affordable options, with average prices around NT$600,000 per ping. These stations, though further from the city center, attract buyers prioritizing value and willing to trade commute time for lower housing costs.
