Taipower Energizes Key Transmission Lines, Doubling Power Capacity for TSMC Kaohsiung Plant

Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) has successfully energized its "Kaohsiung-Xiongji 3rd and 4th Lines" power transmission project, a critical infrastructure upgrade designed to meet the burgeoning electricity demands of the semiconductor industry in southern Taiwan. The project's completion significantly enhances the power supply capacity for the TSMC Kaohsiung plant, located in the Nanzih Science Park.

The newly operational transmission lines will elevate the power supply capability for the Nanzih园区 from its current demand of approximately 400MW to over 1000MW. This substantial increase is vital for ensuring a stable and robust power supply, supporting the advanced manufacturing processes required by semiconductor facilities. The project also aims to strengthen the overall power grid stability in the greater Kaohsiung region.

Initiated in May of the previous year, the "Kaohsiung-Xiongji 3rd and 4th Lines" project spans approximately 9.6 kilometers and required extensive construction across Kaohsiung's Sanmin, Gushan, and Zuoying districts. Taipower implemented strategic management measures, including increasing work crews and extending working hours, to accelerate the project. These efforts resulted in the completion of the 42-month project in just 15 months, more than two years ahead of the original schedule.

Taipower emphasized that the new transmission lines are designed with flexibility to accommodate both the initial 161kV and future 345kV electricity needs of the science park. The successful energization was witnessed by Taipower Chairman Tseng Wen-sheng and General Manager Kuo Tien-ho, alongside their teams. The company extended its gratitude to the Kaohsiung City Government, elected officials, and the public for their support and understanding during the construction phase, highlighting the collaborative effort to bolster power resilience and foster local industrial development.
