Taitung Recognizes 10 Top Pineapple Soursop Packaging Plants

Taitung County is enhancing the quality and export competitiveness of its pineapple and soursop production through a rigorous evaluation of packaging plants and personnel. The county government organized the "2026 Taitung County Pineapple Soursop Excellent Packaging Plant and Clean Packaging Management Personnel Evaluation" to identify and commend top-performing facilities.

The county government has continuously organized packaging plant evaluations, training, and quality management guidance. Last year, we even assisted three excellent packaging plants in introducing automated cleaning equipment developed by the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, which officially began operation this season.

This initiative seeks to set benchmarks for the industry, encouraging continuous improvement and safeguarding the premium brand image of Taitung's pineapple soursops. County Magistrate Rao Ching-ling highlighted the government's ongoing efforts, including training and quality management guidance. Notably, last year, the county assisted three excellent packaging plants in adopting automated cleaning equipment developed by the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station.

These automated systems, now operational this season, have significantly improved the removal of scale insects. To date, no fruit processed with this equipment has tested positive for scale insects. This not only reduces the need for manual labor but also substantially boosts cleaning quality, operational efficiency, and packaging capacity, marking a crucial step in quality management for pineapple soursops. The county plans to continue promoting equipment upgrades and intelligent management to further enhance industry competitiveness.

Through actual verification, the scale insect removal effect of fruits processed by automated cleaning equipment is significant. As of now, no fruits cleaned by the equipment have been found to have scale insects.

Five packaging plants received the "Special Commendation": Taitung County Shangpin Agricultural Products Marketing Cooperative, Baomei Packaging Plant, Taitung District Farmers' Association Export Collection and Distribution Center, Shanyang Packaging Plant, and Yaoda Xingchang Plant. Five plants were awarded "Honorable Mention": Sunshine Agricultural Products Packaging Plant, Binge Packaging Plant, Yunhao Packaging Plant, Hongzhou Packaging Plant, and Jiajia Collection and Distribution Center. Professor Li Chun-lin of National Taitung University detailed the evaluation criteria, which included the separation of clean and packaging areas, proper protective measures, adherence to cleaning procedures, use of inspection equipment, and online reporting for traceability.

The evaluation criteria are based on the 'Pineapple Soursop Packaging Plant Quality Management Standards.' Key evaluation points include whether the environmental site implements separation of clean and packaging areas with appropriate protective measures; whether cleaning operations comply with regulations and new fruit and vegetable nets are used; whether quality inspection personnel use inspection equipment to sample fruits and confirm thorough cleaning; and whether operation record forms are accurately filled out online to ensure traceability.
