Taitung's Jiedier Area Faces Frequent Waste Dumping; Prosecutors Intervene

Taitung's Jiedier area has become a frequent dumping ground for illegal waste, prompting a strong response from prosecutors and the county government. The Taitung District Prosecutors Office has seized key evidence, including machinery used in criminal acts, related to previous cases of construction waste dumping in the area. Prosecutors are now investigating these cases with a focus on swift and strict handling.

Responding to recent media reports of renewed illegal waste dumping, prosecutors have initiated separate investigations. The Taitung County Government's Tourism Development Department has installed 24-hour video surveillance and arranged for daily patrols by security personnel in the Jiedier area and its access roads. This initiative aims to curb the growing problem of illegal dumping.

Through surveillance footage and patrol data, county officials have successfully identified and apprehended individuals and vehicles involved in illegally dumping household and construction waste. These cases have been transferred to judicial and police authorities for legal processing. Recently, inspection personnel discovered household garbage dumped in the area again. They are now reviewing surveillance and patrol data to track down the vehicles and individuals responsible for this malicious act.

The county government urges the public and businesses not to take chances. All household and construction waste must be disposed of through legal channels. Illegal dumping is subject to heavy fines under the "Waste Disposal Act," and cases involving administrative and criminal penalties will be directly transferred for prosecution. The public is encouraged to report suspicious vehicles or illegal dumping activities by taking photos or videos and notifying the tourism department or the police to help maintain the local environment.
