Taiwan Activates Key Water Pipeline to Boost Resource Resilience

Taiwan has taken a significant step towards bolstering its water resource management with the activation of the Da'an and Dajia river inter-basin connection pipeline. The new infrastructure links the Shihtang Dam and Liyutan Reservoir, two major components of the island's water supply network.

Premier Cho Jung-tai attended the water flow ceremony, highlighting the project's importance within the broader "Pearl String Plan." This national initiative aims to create a network of interconnected water systems, allowing for greater flexibility and resilience in water distribution.

Currently, 11 such inter-basin connection projects have been completed nationwide. The government anticipates that within the next three years, the remaining five major pipelines under the "Pearl String Plan" will be operational. This comprehensive network is designed to ensure that water can be efficiently rerouted and shared between different regions, especially during times of scarcity or when existing distribution channels face challenges.

The government also continues to invest in the construction and maintenance of important reservoirs. The ultimate goal is to comprehensively enhance Taiwan's national water resource resilience, ensuring a stable supply for various needs across the island.
