Taiwan Army Invites the Public to Draw “The Army in Their Hearts” for Next Year’s Calendar

“The army you draw could accompany you every day next year.” With that invitation, Taiwan’s Army Command has opened its first public artwork competition for an annual calendar.

The competition, titled “It’s Great to Have the Army,” invites people of all ages to draw or digitally create their own image of the army. The event breaks with the traditional approach in which the military produced the calendar itself. Participants are encouraged to portray the army from different perspectives and present an image that is capable, trustworthy, approachable and responsible.

The Army Command said the event is intended to be more than a contest. It wants people to move from “watching the army” to “participating in the army,” giving different generations a way to express their understanding of the military and their expectations of it.

Selected entries may be used in the 2027 calendar, allowing the creators’ work to become part of people’s daily surroundings for an entire year. The command described the public competition as an extension of its broader efforts to promote a modern, technology-oriented and approachable military image.

Submissions are open until October 4. The first-place winner will receive NT$10,000, with additional prizes for second and third place, fourth through sixth place, and other selected works. Details are available on the Republic of China Army’s Facebook page.
