Taiwan Association Celebrates 39 Years, Rallies Support for DPP's Taichung Mayoral Candidate

A significant gathering marked the 39th anniversary of the Datun District Democratic Friendship Association in Taichung, Taiwan, drawing a thousand supporters under the banner of "Protect Taiwan, Guard Democracy." The event served as a crucial platform to bolster the campaign of Hok-shan Chun, the DPP's candidate for Taichung mayor.

Distinguished guests, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu and former DPP Chairman Hsu Hsin-liang, were present to express their support. They joined association president Lin Ching-hui and other local officials in a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, underscoring the collective commitment to democratic values. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm, as chants of "Hok-shan Chun, win!" echoed through the venue.

Established in 1987, the Datun District Democratic Friendship Association has been a steadfast supporter of the DPP, playing a vital role in building the party's foundation in central Taiwan. Chun, addressing the attendees, emphasized that Taiwan's current democratic freedoms were hard-won through the sacrifices of previous generations. She highlighted the association's enduring dedication to democratic principles and nurturing younger generations as a vital force in Taichung's democratic movement.

Chun articulated her vision for Taichung, stressing the need for a mayor capable of collaborating with the central government to accelerate development in transportation, education, industry, and infrastructure. She pledged to enhance Taichung's food safety governance, proposing increased budgets, more inspectors, and the recruitment of specialized personnel if elected. The event concluded with a collective rendition of "Happy Birthday" and the expression of three key wishes: upholding Taiwan's democratic and free lifestyle, ensuring the DPP's continued governance and a majority in the legislature, and securing Chun's victory along with a clean sweep for all DPP council candidates.
