Taiwan braces for a week of rain and potential typhoons

Taiwan is bracing for a week of turbulent weather as a vast low-pressure system is forecast to blanket the island, bringing unstable conditions and rain. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) predicts that much of the island will remain under the influence of this system, with localized showers and thunderstorms expected across various regions.

The weather will remain unstable tomorrow, with localized brief showers or thunderstorms in central and southern Taiwan, and heavy rain in the south. Other areas will be cloudy with scattered afternoon thunderstorms, and heavy afternoon showers are also possible in central and northern Taiwan.

Adding to the weather concerns, the CWA is closely monitoring tropical systems developing in the South China Sea and east of the Philippines. There is a possibility that one to two new typhoons could form in these areas. However, current forecasts show significant divergence regarding their development and potential paths, necessitating continuous observation.

The weather will be significantly affected by the large low-pressure system from Monday to Wednesday. Northern, southern, and northeastern Taiwan will have brief showers with localized heavy rain. Afternoon heavy showers are also possible in the mountainous areas of central and southeastern Taiwan.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain unsettled. For the upcoming week, central and southern Taiwan may experience brief showers or thunderstorms, with heavy rain possible in the south. Northern and eastern regions can expect cloudy skies with scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Heavy afternoon showers are also possible in parts of central and northern Taiwan.

There is a chance for tropical systems to develop in the South China Sea and east of the Philippines. There is a chance for one to two typhoons to form.

Toward the end of the week, a shift to a southerly wind is anticipated. This change may bring localized showers to the northeastern coast, southern Taiwan, and the eastern parts of the island. Other areas are likely to remain mostly cloudy with afternoon thunderstorms. The CWA advises the public to stay updated with the latest forecasts due to the dynamic nature of the developing tropical systems.
