Taiwan Braces for Heavy Rain: Torrential Downpours Expected Tuesday and Wednesday

Taiwan is bracing for a week of heavy rainfall, with the Central Weather Administration issuing warnings for significant downpours on Tuesday and Wednesday. The island is expected to experience intense, short-duration rain, especially in the mountainous regions of the central and southern areas, where localized torrential rain is possible due to the accumulation of moisture from the southwest monsoon.

The weather agency forecasts that the monsoon will strengthen into a "southwest airflow" level, bringing abundant moisture. Western Taiwan, Yilan, and the mountainous areas of Hualien and Taitung could see showers or thunderstorms, with the potential for heavy or localized torrential rain. The situation is expected to persist through Friday, with the front moving south and then north again, bringing intermittent rain to western and eastern mountainous areas.

Looking ahead, the front is predicted to move north of Taiwan by next Tuesday. Northern and eastern Taiwan might transition to hot, sunny days with afternoon thunderstorms, while the southwest monsoon will continue to bring scattered showers to central and southern regions. Temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable throughout the week, with daytime highs generally ranging from 26 to 30 degrees Celsius and early morning and evening temperatures between 23 and 26 degrees.
