Taiwan Coast Guard rescues feverish, dehydrated boy in Matsu

Taiwan's Coast Guard successfully conducted an emergency medical rescue for a young boy in Matsu who was suffering from a high fever and dehydration caused by a respiratory infection. The child required immediate transfer to the Lienchiang County Hospital for advanced medical evaluation and treatment.

The Matsu Coast Guard dispatched a patrol vessel in the early hours of the morning to transfer the boy and his family from Beigan Township to the hospital on Nangan Island. Personnel from the Coast Guard, along with the Lienchiang County Fire Bureau, facilitated the safe boarding of the child and his escorts onto the vessel. The patrol boat then proceeded at maximum speed to the hospital, ensuring the child received timely medical attention.

This operation highlights the critical role the Coast Guard plays in providing essential medical support across the scattered islands of the Matsu archipelago. Due to the dispersed medical resources and reliance on maritime transport between islands, emergency medical evacuations are often necessary. The Matsu Coast Guard reported that this mission marked their 10th emergency medical transfer of the year, underscoring their commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of residents in the region.
