Taiwan Coast Guard rescues three stranded by strong currents off Bitou Cape

Taiwan's Coast Guard successfully rescued three individuals who were stranded off the coast of Bitou Cape after encountering strong sea currents. The group, consisting of people using two Stand-Up Paddleboards (SUPs) and one rubber dinghy, found themselves unable to return to shore.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning when the three water sports enthusiasts were enjoying activities in the waters near Bitou Cape. They were swept approximately 0.5 nautical miles offshore by powerful currents, leaving them in a precarious situation. The Coast Guard's Ao-di unit received the distress call via their '118' hotline and immediately dispatched a patrol boat to the scene.

Using advanced equipment, including an infrared thermal imaging system, Coast Guard personnel quickly located the stranded individuals. A 35-ton patrol boat arrived and safely transferred the three people and their equipment onto the vessel. Fortunately, all three were found to be in good physical condition and unharmed.

Considering the persistent strong currents in the area, the Coast Guard transported the group and their gear to a calmer section of water near Longdong, allowing them to safely paddle back to shore. The Coast Guard took the opportunity to remind the public about water safety, especially during the popular summer season. They advised individuals to carefully assess their physical capabilities, stay informed about wind and current conditions, and always wear life jackets and carry essential safety gear when participating in water activities.
