Taiwan commissions new Danjiang warship, advancing domestic shipbuilding goals

President Lai Ching-te presided over the commissioning ceremony of the Danjiang warship, a new addition to the Navy's fleet, at the Zuoying Naval Base. The event marks a significant step in Taiwan's "national ships building national ships" (NSBNS) program, with the Danjiang being the first of the second batch of mass-produced Tso Chiang-class corvettes. The Navy expects all 12 of these high-efficiency vessels to be delivered by the end of the year, bolstering its capacity to protect maritime borders and national security.

The commissioning of the Danjiang warship not only symbolizes the gradual realization of the 'national ships building national ships' goal but also demonstrates the Navy's firm determination to guard the maritime borders and national security.

During the ceremony, President Lai highlighted the three key significances of the Danjiang's commissioning. Firstly, it represents the successful realization of the NSBNS goal, enabling Taiwan to independently research, design, build, and integrate systems according to its defense needs, ensuring operational advantages even in wartime. Secondly, it demonstrates the Navy's unwavering resolve to safeguard Taiwan's waters and protect the nation, especially in the face of increasing threats from China. The successful deployment of the Tso Chiang-class corvettes serves as a clear message to the public of the Navy's unity and determination. Thirdly, it proves that Taiwan's national security policy relies on strength to achieve deterrence and ultimately peace.

Peace is priceless, and war has no winners. Peace is not achieved through a peace agreement, nor can it be achieved through the goodwill of aggressors or by accepting the aggressors' claims. Taiwan firmly believes in achieving peace through strength.

President Lai stressed that peace is invaluable and war has no winners. He asserted that peace cannot be achieved through mere agreements or by appeasing aggressors. Taiwan firmly believes in deterring conflict through strength, a principle that has guided its defense buildup for decades. He called for bipartisan support from the Legislative Yuan for national defense construction to continuously enhance the country's security and defense capabilities. Following the ceremony, President Lai boarded the Danjiang for an inspection, accompanied by naval vessels that rendered a salute.

The three warships anchored here are enough to illustrate the process of building the Tso Chiang-class warships. From the completion of the prototype's design verification to the commissioning of the first batch of mass-produced ships led by the Ta Chiang, and now the Dan Chiang becoming the first ship of the second batch of mass-produced ships, all 12 are expected to be delivered by the end of this year, jointly protecting the maritime borders and safeguarding national security.
