Taiwan Defense Minister observes Han Kuang 42 exercise, gathers reservist feedback

Taiwanese Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng personally observed the Han Kuang 42 live-fire exercise in the greater Taipei region on August 12. The drills aimed to assess and enhance the combat readiness of reserve forces, focusing on mobilization, defensive positioning, and joint-service anti-airborne operations.

During the exercise, Chiu was briefed on the Taipei Brigade's mobilization capabilities and its plans for coordinated support and defense. He also witnessed a demonstration of 120mm mortar firing procedures by artillery battalion personnel, showcasing their training effectiveness after mobilization.

A key aspect of the minister's visit involved direct engagement with reservists. Chiu inquired about their specialized skills, training experiences, and overall feedback from the mobilization drills. He emphasized the importance of matching reservists' expertise to appropriate roles for rapid force generation and stressed the need to integrate active and reserve forces effectively for optimal combat performance.

Chiu also observed anti-airborne drills conducted by the Military Police 229nd Battalion, the 66th Marine Brigade, and the Taipei Brigade. He commended the personnel for their dedication to combat readiness training and urged them to continue transforming their exercise experience into a robust defense capability for national security.
