Taiwan Issues Heavy Rain Advisories for Four Areas Amid Unstable Weather

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration has issued heavy rain advisories for four municipalities: Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Taiwan's Orchid Island (Lanyu) in Taitung County. The advisories come as the island continues to be affected by a trough of low pressure and strong southwest winds, leading to increased moisture and unstable weather conditions.

Residents in southern Taiwan and the mountainous areas of Taitung County can expect intermittent localized showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. The southern regions, in particular, are at risk of experiencing short bursts of torrential rainfall. Northern Taiwan may see scattered brief showers in the morning, with localized heavy showers possible in the afternoon, especially in mountainous areas. Temperatures are expected to be warm and muggy when it's not raining, with highs ranging from 32 to 36 degrees Celsius across the island.

The weather is forecast to remain unsettled through the week. From Wednesday to Thursday, the southwest monsoon will continue to influence central and southern Taiwan, bringing localized showers and thunderstorms, potentially heavy at times. Northern and eastern Taiwan will be mostly cloudy with afternoon thunderstorms. Looking ahead to Friday through next Monday, the trough of low pressure is expected to dominate, maintaining unstable conditions with chances of short-duration showers and thunderstorms across most of the island.

Air quality is generally fair, with the Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung air quality zones rated as "good." Other regions, including northern, central, and southern Taiwan, along with Matsu, Kinmen, and Penghu, are rated as "ordinary." The forecast advises residents to stay hydrated and be mindful of changing weather conditions, particularly the potential for heavy downpours and thunderstorms.
