Taiwan Issues Heavy Rain Advisory for Kaohsiung, Pingtung; Other Areas Warned of Localized Downpours

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration has issued a heavy rain advisory for Kaohsiung and Pingtung counties on August 23. The advisory warns of localized torrential or extremely heavy rainfall in these areas due to a strong southwest monsoon and a low-pressure trough.

Other areas, including Chiayi, Tainan, the Hengchun Peninsula, and mountainous regions of Hualien and Taitung, are expected to experience heavy to torrential rain. Localized heavy rain is also possible in New Taipei, Yunlin, Nantou, Chiayi City, eastern Taiwan, Penghu, Lanyu, and Green Island. Residents should be aware of potential lightning strikes and strong gusts of wind.

Authorities are urging caution for low-lying areas prone to flooding. Mountainous regions are particularly at risk of landslides, rockfalls, and debris flows. The advisory highlights Kaohsiung and Pingtung as areas that could experience extremely heavy rainfall.
