Taiwan Issues Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Warnings for 12 Areas

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration issued heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings for 12 counties and cities on Friday evening. The warnings highlight the potential for intense, short-duration rainfall due to developing convective clouds.

Areas including mountainous regions in New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Nantou County, Yunlin County, and Chiayi County are expected to experience heavy rain or torrential downpours. Residents are advised to be aware of lightning strikes, strong gusts of wind, and the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.

The weather agency also issued immediate thunderstorm warnings for Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, and Tainan City, with these conditions expected to persist until late afternoon. Such intense convection can bring lightning, heavy rain, strong winds, and even hail, exacerbating the risk of flooding in areas with poor drainage.

The affected areas for heavy rain include specific districts within New Taipei, Taoyuan, Nantou, Yunlin, and Chiayi. Large rain warnings cover parts of Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Chiayi City, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Yilan.
