Taiwan Issues Heavy Rain Warnings for 18 Counties Amid Intense Downpours

Taiwan is bracing for intensified rainfall as the Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued heavy and torrential rain warnings for 18 counties and cities across the island. The warnings come as convective cloud systems are developing vigorously, increasing the likelihood of short-duration, intense downpours.

Additionally, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung are expected to experience localized heavy rain.

Residents are urged to be vigilant due to the potential for thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind accompanying the heavy rainfall. In mountainous areas, there is a risk of landslides, falling rocks, and sudden rises in river water levels. Low-lying areas are particularly susceptible to flooding.

There is a high probability of localized heavy rain in Taichung City, and in the western, Hualien, Taitung areas, and Yilan's mountainous regions.

Furthermore, immediate thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Hualien and Taitung counties until 4:40 PM, and for Miaoli and Taichung cities until 5:00 PM. Radar imagery from the CWA indicates active storm cells moving across the region, underscoring the immediate nature of the threat. The public is advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of adverse weather.
