Taiwan issues high-temperature alert for 11 cities, warns of heatstroke risk

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration has issued a high-temperature advisory for 11 counties and cities, warning residents to be vigilant against heatstroke as temperatures are expected to soar. The advisory, issued Tuesday morning, highlights that daytime temperatures in several areas will reach or exceed 36 degrees Celsius (96.8 degrees Fahrenheit), with a possibility of continuous high temperatures.

An "orange alert" has been issued for Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Pingtung County, and Hualien County. These areas face a high probability of experiencing temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius or above for multiple consecutive days. Additionally, Changhua County and Yilan County are under a "yellow alert," also indicating temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius.

The weather agency strongly advises the public to avoid non-essential outdoor activities and strenuous labor. It emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated, using sunscreen, and ensuring indoor spaces are well-ventilated and cool. Recommended measures include fanning oneself or using ice packs for cooling. The administration also urges special attention to vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, individuals with chronic illnesses, the obese, those taking medication, and outdoor workers, advising them to stay away from high-temperature environments.
