Taiwan Legislator He Hsin-chun Recalls Late Father on Father's Day

On Father's Day, Taichung mayoral candidate and legislator He Hsin-chun shared a poignant remembrance of her father, who passed away when she was just 11 years old. The occasion prompted her to reflect on her childhood and the responsibilities she shouldered after his death.

Recently, while attending a local forum, He Hsin-chun unexpectedly saw an old video from 43 years ago featuring her parents at a wedding banquet. This glimpse into the past instantly transported her back to her youth, evoking memories of being a "little girl cherished by her father."

Her father, He Chin-chou, managed a successful construction company in Dali District, Taichung. His sudden death from a cerebral hemorrhage just before the Lunar New Year plunged the family into grief. Following his passing, her mother, Lin Shu-man, bravely took over the construction business while raising their three children.

He Hsin-chun recalled how her mother, encouraged by local supporters, entered politics, winning a county council seat. However, a subsequent failed re-election bid left the family with significant debt. During her studies, He Hsin-chun began working to support herself, including laboring in the Lishan Huanshan tribe harvesting pears and packing goods. She continued working during university breaks, eventually pursuing her master's degree at the University of York in the UK.
