Taiwan Lifts Heavy Rainfall Warning as Storm Threat Eases

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) has lifted its heavy rainfall warning that was in effect for June 8-9. The alert was issued in response to a stationary front combined with a strong southwest airflow, which brought significant rainfall across the island over the past few days.

The CWA stated that the probability of large-scale and intense heavy rainfall has decreased. Consequently, the "Enhanced Operations for 0608 Stationary Front and Southwest Airflow Heavy Rain Event" has been concluded. However, the administration cautioned that localized heavy downpours and thunderstorms may still occur, especially in the mountainous regions of the south.

Looking ahead, the CWA forecasts that the stationary front is expected to move south towards the Bashi Channel on June 10-11. During this period, southern and central Taiwan, along with mountainous areas in the east and southeast, could experience short-term showers or thunderstorms, with a chance of localized torrential rain in southern mountain areas.

From Friday to the following Tuesday, the stationary front is predicted to return over Taiwan. Coupled with the southwest monsoon, western and eastern parts of the island, as well as eastern mountainous areas, may see intermittent showers or thunderstorms, including localized heavy downpours or torrential rain. Other regions might experience brief showers or thunderstorms.
