Taiwan likely to freeze electricity prices in October; minister discusses support for power company

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs is exploring financial support for Taiwan Power Company, as a potential freeze on electricity prices in October could strain the company's finances. Economic Minister Kung Ming-hsin emphasized the ministry's commitment to protecting citizens and stabilizing prices.

Kung stated that the ministry will present data to the electricity price review committee for consideration, but the committee holds the final decision-making power on electricity rates. He dismissed suggestions that the potential price freeze is linked to upcoming elections.

Responding to concerns from Democratic Progressive Party legislator Hsieh Chih-wei about the impact of a potential price freeze on Taiwan Power Company's finances, Kung confirmed that discussions are underway with the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics regarding the forms of support the company might receive.
