Taiwan Military Drills on New Bridge to Block Enemy Advance

Taiwan's military has incorporated the recently opened Tamshui River estuary bridge into its defense strategy, conducting a significant obstruction drill on the structure as part of the Han Kuang 42 exercise. The drill, which took place on the bridge's southbound lanes, simulated the deployment of barriers to prevent enemy forces from advancing directly towards Taiwan's core political and economic hubs. Engineers from the Third Theater Command utilized heavy equipment to place materials such as wave-dissipating blocks, steel hedgehogs, and concertina wire across the bridge. The exercise aimed to enhance the military's ability to delay and redirect potential enemy advances into pre-determined engagement zones. The bridge, which opened to traffic in May, was closed for 10 hours overnight for the drill. This exercise highlights the strategic importance of the new bridge in Taiwan's defense planning, emphasizing its role in protecting critical infrastructure and population centers.
