Taiwan Ministry Investigates Pingtung Hospital Director for Workplace Bullying

Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) has confirmed it is processing allegations of workplace bullying against Wang Sen-jen, the director of Pingtung Hospital. The ministry stated that the case has been handled according to established procedures since a complaint was received via the minister's mailbox on April 21st.

However, due to new regulations that took effect on July 1st, cases involving the heads of government agencies are now handled by local governments. Consequently, the Pingtung Hospital bullying case has been legally transferred to the Pingtung County Government for further investigation.

Wang Yu-wei, deputy executive officer of MOHW's Medical Affairs Foundation, clarified that the ministry initiated a formal investigation by forming a committee after the complaint was filed. The investigation team attempted to interview the complainant, but the individual was unavailable for the entire month of June. An interview was scheduled for early July, but before it could take place, the new regulations were announced.

Wang emphasized that the transfer to the Pingtung County Government was in line with these new rules and not indicative of any delay or standstill in the investigation. MOHW has fully cooperated with the transition and will continue to support the county government's inquiry. The ministry also noted that this change in jurisdiction specifically applies to bullying cases involving agency heads, while bullying incidents between general hospital staff will continue to be handled internally by the respective institutions.
