Taiwan monitors Typhoon Haikui, ensuring safety of Nantou bridges with advanced surveillance

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration is closely observing Typhoon Haikui as it has intensified and adjusted its path. Residents near three key bridges in Nantou County, managed by the Forest Bureau, can rest assured due to advanced safety measures in place. The bridges, Shihuikeng Bridge, Zhuoshui River Bridge, and Wandashan Bridge, are equipped with comprehensive 24-hour monitoring systems.

These state-of-the-art systems include dual-axis tiltmeters, ultrasonic water level gauges, all-weather network cameras, and bridge warning light systems. They continuously monitor the structural integrity of the bridge piers, river water levels, and overall bridge conditions. All collected data is instantly transmitted to a cloud platform for real-time analysis.

The Forest Bureau conducts regular monthly inspections and patrols for these bridges, along with special checks after typhoons, heavy rains, or earthquakes. Any identified structural issues have been promptly repaired. The monitoring systems are designed to activate warning lights and notify management units if data reaches critical thresholds, potentially leading to traffic control or bridge closures during severe weather events.
