Taiwan opposition proposes cutting drone budget; DPP councilor calls out mayor

Taiwan's opposition Kuomintang (KMT) party has proposed suspending the budget for a government-approved drone development initiative. The proposal targets the "Unmanned Vehicle Industry Development Integrated Plan," which had already received approval and funding allocation from the Executive Yuan.

The KMT's move seeks to halt the program's funding for the current fiscal year, with related budgets across various ministries also facing proposed reductions. This action signals a potential political standoff over the future of the island's drone technology development.

In response, a prominent councilor from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taichung City has publicly questioned Mayor Lu Shiow-yen and Legislative Vice Speaker Chiang Wan-an regarding their positions on the drone budget. The councilor urged them to clarify their stance on the KMT's proposal, highlighting the political divisions surrounding the issue.
