Taiwan party slams China's job platform for youth amid Beijing's own unemployment crisis

Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has sharply criticized a new Chinese platform, "Taiqing e-jia," aimed at attracting Taiwanese youth to work and live in mainland China. The DPP argues that Beijing is promoting job opportunities while facing its own severe youth unemployment crisis.

The DPP's China Affairs Department pointed to official Chinese data indicating a youth unemployment rate of 14.9% for 16-24 year olds in June, with some estimates from ANZ predicting it could reach nearly 20%. They also highlighted that some advertised positions on the "Taiqing e-jia" platform offer monthly salaries as low as RMB 2,000 to 4,000 (approximately $275 to $550 USD).

"It's like promoting a fire extinguisher while your own house is on fire," stated the DPP, accusing China of pushing a "China dream" that comes with political requirements, such as acknowledging the "One China principle." The party contends that these offers are not genuine opportunities but rather a tool for political indoctrination and data collection, aiming to integrate Taiwanese youth into Beijing's framework.

In contrast, the DPP emphasized Taiwan's robust economic performance, citing a first-quarter GDP growth rate of 14.55%, the highest in nearly half a century. They stressed that Taiwanese youth benefit from a democratic society with freedoms and legal protections, urging them not to trade their data, careers, and liberties for low-paying jobs and political conformity. The party also criticized opposition parties for cooperating with Beijing's outreach efforts.
