Taiwan People First Party to hold forum in Taichung, signaling potential blue-white alliance

The People First Party (PFP) is making a significant push into Taichung, a city where its founder, Ko Wen-je, garnered substantial support in the last presidential election. The party recently convened its Central Committee meeting in the city and is set to host a forum titled "Governance, Starting from the Local" on August 30th.

This upcoming forum, led by Ko Wen-je in his capacity as chairman of the Taiwan New Homeland Think Tank, will also feature current PFP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang. Notably, the event includes Kuomintang (KMT) mayoral candidate Chiang Chi-chen, signaling a potential alliance between the two parties, often referred to as the "blue-white alliance." The PFP's increased engagement in Taichung also includes efforts to support its six city council candidates, with hopes of achieving a clean sweep.

Taichung is considered a crucial battleground for the PFP, given Ko Wen-je's strong performance in the presidential election, where he secured 30% of the vote in the city. His frequent visits to Taichung for campaign events have consistently drawn enthusiastic support. The party's ambition is further underscored by internal discussions, such as comments from Central Committee member Chiang Ho-shu, who expressed optimism about forming a PFP caucus in the Taichung City Council, potentially with at least three seats.

With less than 100 days until the year-end elections, the PFP's concentrated efforts to support its candidates in Taichung warrant close observation. The party's strategic focus on this key region, highlighted by the upcoming forum and the potential for collaboration with the KMT, underscores its determination to make a significant impact in the upcoming local elections.
